Anita Badger Scholarship
Anita Badger was born on March 15, 1914 in Rangeley, Maine. Reared and educated in the public schools of Rangeley, she went on to graduate from Simmons College (Boston) in 1936. She then began a career of some forty years in the field of clinical laboratory science. She worked in hospitals in both Massachusetts and Maine, spending almost twenty years at the Rumford Community Hospital in Rumford, Maine. Ms. Badger then began working for the Public Health Laboratory in Augusta where she developed and operated the proficiency-testing program for independent hospital laboratories. While at Augusta, she was also responsible for many other duties, including training officer, Microbiology Quality Control, and inspection of hospital laboratories. She remained in Augusta until her death on January 19, 1976.
During Ms. Badger’s extensive career, she was active in clinical laboratory science circles and served as Treasurer and Chairman of the Scholarship Fund of the Maine Association for Medical Technology (now ASCLS-Maine).
Due to Ms. Badger’s dedication to the field of Clinical Laboratory Science, her family requested that a scholarship fund be established in her memory. Once established, the fund was to be administered by MAMT/ASCLS-ME. Over 50 friends and organizations contributed to the fund. The Anita Badger Scholarship is awarded each year to a student enrolled in his or her senior year and completing his or her clinical rotations in either MLT or MLS programs.
The ASCLS-Maine Scholarship Committee will review applications and a decision made within 6-8 weeks of the submission deadline. Award announcements will be made and recipients notified shortly thereafter.
